By the blow of a hammer, just like his character Thor. That is how Chris Hemsworth has achieved worldwide fame, the prototype of an Australian man who for this year holds the title of ‘the sexiest alive man in the world’, according to People magazine.
Chris Hemsworth, the protagonist of ‘Thor’ is pure muscle and all heart. He loves boxing, surfing and the traditional sport from Thailand, the martial art Muay Thai. A fun fact: he doesn’t like running. At home, he is a dedicated husband and a model father to three beautiful children: India Rose, 3 years old, and the twins Tristán and Sacha, born in March 2014.
Together with his wife, the Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, they are one of the hottest couples in Hollywood. “Now I can say to her: ‘Remember what people think. I don’t need to wash dishes or change more nappies anymore”, he said –jokingly- to his wife as soon as he received the title of World’s Sexiest Man. The anecdote: when his daughter India starts to talk to him in Spanish he doesn’t fully understand, “so she grabs my face, shakes me and says to me ‘daddy, daddy, that’s Spanish”; he is still in the process of learning the language.
The family currently lives in the bohemian Australian surfing paradise Byron Bay (160 km south of Brisbane) where, for 7 millions dollars, they have bought a Balinese style mansion. Hemsworth was fed up with the paparazzi following him around in California (in Malibu they own another mansion bought from ‘Crocodile Dundee’ himself for 4.6 million dollars), as he is very protective of his private life. However, he occasionally spills the beans and lets us in on things like the fact that he likes sleeping naked and that from time to time he forgets the diet and stuffs himself on pizzas, burgers and beer.
At 190 cm tall, his chiselled body sets pulses racing on both sides of the hemisphere. He is the middle of three brothers, Luke, 34 years old and Liam, 25, who also attracts paparazzi attention because of his love life, the most notorious of which was with the outspoken Miley Cyrus.
Chris Hemsworth was born on 11 August 1983 in Melbourne, but his most vivid childhood memories were the times he spent in the middle of nowhere on a remote farm located in an aboriginal community, where he had fun watching the crocodiles and buffalos. There were no artistic predecessors in his family so his parents, Leonie, an English teacher, and Craig, a social services consultant, were shocked when their three children decided to make a name for themselves in the competitive world of acting. In 2004 he followed in the steps of other Australian colleagues like Naomi Watts, Simon Baker and Heath Ledger and become one of the main protagonists of the successful Australian soap opera ‘Home and Away’.
Fate is often a funny thing and, while he was living in Sydney, a talent scout took him and his brother Liam to Hollywood. That stranger, William Ward, became his manager and is the key to his international success. After landing his first role in the cinema mecca ‘Star Trek’ (2009), the almighty magazine ‘Hollywood Reporter’ predicted that he would become one of the members of the ‘A-Hollywood List’ (the most sought after and highly paid actors). And that became a reality when in 2010 he stepped into the shoes of the god of thunder ‘Thor’ for the first time, a role he is taking on again in the anticipated sequel of Marvel superheroes ‘Marvel’s Avengers: the Age of Ultron’.
His short career in Hollywood also includes films ‘The cabin in the woods’ (2012), ‘Rush’ (2013), ‘Blackhat’ (2013) and he is currently filming ‘The Huntsman’ with Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, which is due for release in April 2016. And there is still more to come – shortly he will begin filming ‘Thor III: Ragnarok’. Success is achieved by every blow of the hammer.
